DIAMATREGON "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea"
This band was lucky to get a review In the magazine as the tape was almost
totally destroyed when it arrived in my mail today! Well, over to the
important stuff then .The music is what one may call Occult Black Metal
whatever that is, ifs a one-man-band and I believe he has got a session
drummer (God) which didn't help him alot. The sound is pretty bad, not
actually a studio recording I would say. Well the intro was kinda silly
with screams and no feeling in it, but the first track was cool and enjoyable
except some of the vocal parts which reminds me of sheep's! But after
the first track there isn't anything interesting at all! This is all too
"occult" for me, the price is 30 FF US$,-10 DM or £5 ...

Derrière ce titre mystérieux se cache un nouveau one-man band français
qui officie dans un Black Metal assez brut et cru, influencé par des vieux
groupes comme Hellhammer, Sodom etc... La présentation est sommaire, mais
le son n'en est pas moins acceptable, et j'ai trouvé que l'ensemble était
très intéressant... jusqu'au moment où j'ai entendu la (ou plutôt les)
voix. Le tout commence toujours très bien, avec des riffs accrocheurs
et pour une fois, sans l'habituel synthé qui cache tous les autres instruments,
mais c'est alors qu'apparaît le chant... En fait, c'est impossible à décrire,
mais il y a plusieurs parties en permanence semble-t-il, on en vient à
ne plus comprendre la musique! Mis à part les voix Black et Death habituelles,
des râles divers interviennent en permanence, ça en devient presque ridicule...
C'est extrêmement décevant, surtout que la partie musicale est vraiment
bonne. J'espère seulement que le musicien derrière Diamatregon va se rendre
compte de son erreur et nous proposer une 2eme démo plus sobre du côté
vocal!

DIAMATREGON "Between the devil and the deep blue sea" demo '96
AAAAGGHH!!! Every time that I've claimed to have heard the rawest demo
one comes long to spoil my line. Well, this bastard is raw! The music
is good on many tracks here, yet the vocals are so blaringly loud that
it's hard to focus on the truly wicked playing .The vocals remind me a
lot of Vlad Tepes circa "War Funeral March...", yet there appears on this
tape some whiney stuff that I don't care for.I'd really like to hear this
with the concentration on the music and perhaps more suppressed vocals.
Over all, though, I really like this tape because it's rough, raw, and
evil... the stuff Black Metal is made of. Seven tracks total.
